PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has adjourned suspended sub inspector Sunil Gudlar’s bail plea hearing to next week. The matter appeared before the division bench, which adjourned the matter to next week. Gudlar, currently in judicial custody was arrested by the CBI for implicating Israeli David Driham alias Dudu in a fake drugs case.

SPP Ferreira resigns
PANJIM: Special Public Prosecutor Carlos Ferreira has tendered his resignation in view of the show cause notice issued to him by the directorate of prosecution.
One Jagdish Dhingra had filed a complaint against Adv Ferreira alleging professional impropriety. The department has also taken into account other complaints filed against Adv Ferreira while issuing a show cause notice to him. Additionally, there were complaints against him from police department as well.
Tourism dept seeks time to reply to barred petitioner’s plea
PANJIM: Tourism department has sought more time to file a reply to a writ petition challenging its decision to forbid the petitioner from applying for shack license for a period of three years. The Tourism department had cancelled license of the petitioner Bernard Silva on the ground that a criminal case was pending against him. He was also barred from applying for a shack license for three years. The petitioner through his counsel Adv Abijit Kamat maintained that he had not filed a false affidavit to obtain permission to operate a shack at Calangute beach.
5 held for assault on Davorlim lady panch
MARGAO: The Maina Curtorim police arrested all the five persons in connection with the assault on the lady panch member of Davorlim village Panchayat. Maina Curtorim PI Gurudas Kadam informed that the five persons were arrested late last night after the Panch member Leela Mangalam complained of assault. They were released on bail on Monday. He said the five were arrested for unlawful assembly, assault, wrongful restraint under the IPC.
Case filed against Scorpio driver for head on collision
MARGAO: The Maina Curtorim police has registered a case against the driver of the ill-fated Scorpio vehicle which was involved in a head on collision at Nuvem on Sunday. Police Inspector Gurudas Kadam informed that a case stands registered against the Scorpio driver Umesh Kumar Shinde in connection with the accident.
He said the driver, who is convalescing in the hospital, will be arrested after his discharge.
The police are investigating.

Candolim school celebrates silver jubilee
PANJIM: St Theresa's Higher Secondary School, a unit of the St Theresa’s Educational Complex, Candolim has completed 25 glorious years since its inception.
The Higher Secondary School, founded in the year 1987 under the leadership of Manager, Fr Cipriano Da Silva and Principal Anthony Calisto Vaz. Acharya named chief of Konkani Bhasha Mandal
PANJIM: Konkani writer and youth activist Chetan Acharya has been appointed as the president of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Margao for the year 2012-2014. Chetan Acharya has been immensely contributing to Konkani literature for last several years. Entrepreneur and social worker Serafin Cota is the new vice president while youth writer Anwesha Singbal and C A Pradip Kakodkar have been appointed as the secretary and treasurer, respectively. Ulhas Gaonkar and Guadalupe Dias have been chosen as the joint secretaries. Other members of the newly appointed committee include Prashant Naik, Nityanand Naik, Kajal Kerkar, Mangaldas Bhat, Gunaji Desai and Surel Tilve. The Taluka representatives include Vivek Mordekar (Salcete), Satyavan Naik (Tiswadi), Prasad Pagi (Canacona), Shirish Naik (Sanguem), Dinesh Manerikar (Quepem), Anuradha Naik (Bicholim), Gopinath Gawas (Sattari), Yugank Naik (Ponda), Santosh Kerkar (Mormugao) and Sunil Humraskar (Bardez). The new committee will take charge on June 24.
Water restricted to Bicholim
PANJIM: Due to power failure at Podocem water treatment plant on June 11 pumping of raw water is hampered. Hence, there will be restricted water supply to entire Bicholim taluka on June 12.
St Theresa’s at Vasco secures 97% in SSC
VASCO: St Theresa High School, Vasco, secured 97.18 per cent results at the SSC exam conducted by the Goa Board. In a press note, 71 students had appeared for the exam, out of which 69 passed with 16 students securing distinction, first class (14), second class (30), pass class (9) and ATKT (2). Karen Aditi Quadros, who scored 94.83%, stood fourth in the State. Yuga Dilip Naik secured 93% and Leonie Fernandes secured 92.66%. Karen Quadros and Leonie Fernandes also secured cent per cent in Science and Shivani Ramkrishna Shanbagh secured highest marks in Konkani, while Karen and Yuga also excelled in sports.

Eden Fernandes tops at SSC in Canacona taluka
CANACONA: Eden Fernandes of St Anne’s Agonda topped the Canacona taluka, while Shri Nirankar Vidyalaya, Maxem was the only school to get cent per cent results at Canacona in the SSC exams. According to available reports, Eden scored 533 (88.33%), followed by Vasant Pai of St Thereza of Jesus, Chaudi, (85.5%) and Rakshada Mungi of Shradhanand Vidyalaya, Poinguinim, (85%). Eden, who is the daughter of Jovi and Jovita Fernandes, wants to pursue science in one of the higher secondary schools at Margao. Meanwhile, all 22 students of Shri Nirankar Vidyalaya at Maxem were successful, as it was the only school among 16 high schools in the taluka to achieve cent percent results.
