MARGAO: Ambelim Sports Club defeated hosts Raia Sporting Club 2-0 to cruise into the quarter-finals of 41^st Custodio memorial inter-village football tournament at panchayat ground, Raia, Saturday. Ambelim led 1-0 at the break.Ambelim enjoyed the advantage in the both sessions and never allowed their opponents to strike rhythm. Ambelim took the lead in the 15^th minute when Macron Fernandes slotted past the rival goalkeeper off a flag kick.

Spurred by the success, Ambelim conducted well orchestrated raids but their forwards failed to inflate their tally.

Raia tried their best to restore parity but to no avail.

Ambelim continued to enjoy the lion’s share of exchanges and kept their opponents backfoot for a major part of the game.

Ambelim doubled their tally midway in the second half when Ashley Fernandes beat the rival goalkeeper with a snap shot.
