PANJIM: Eleven-year-old Rajaryan Kuvelkar of Sharda Mandir Mira Mar, secured the joint silver medal at 13th ASEAN age group championship which concluded
in Vietnam recently. This has been confirmed from the certificate issued by the organisers today.
There was a confusion about his placement since the official website placed him third and hence the doubt. Both Rajaryan and Le Minh Hoang finished with 5.5 points each and as such were awarded silver jointly. The certificate which was e-mailed on Wednesday has confirmed the position and the proof which was needed in any case.
There was also a confusion in case of Nitish Belurkar. The GCA’s mail on June 15 gave him a 4th position and on June 16, another GCA mail sent by the coach showed him in 2nd position. The official website gives Nitish a 5th place with four of them finishing with 6.5 points.
The brilliance of the two young players is laudable and certainly they are bound and should make it big in chess. They are outstanding talents to be admired and encouraged.
When there are conflicting mails, one is forced with no other option but to give all sides of such a story, and certainly no aspersions are cast.
