CALANGUTE: St. Peter Boys, Calangute trounced Varca Boys 3-0 in the finals of 2nd all-Goa 8-a-side inter-village football tournament organized by Vailankanni Boys, Calangute at PVC Church ground, Parra,
Sunday.
St. Peter Boys forged ahead through Francis Coutinho following a goalkeeping error. Down by a goal, Varca Boys tried to level but their forwards ran out of ideas in front of the goal.
Changing over, Calangute doubled the score following a goalmouth melee. Francis again scored with few minutes remaining for the final whistle.
St. Peter Boys laid their hands on the
glittering trophy and Rs 30,000 while Varca Boys had to be content with the runners-up prize of Rs 20,000 besides the trophy.
Michael Lobo, MLA and Chairman of NGPDA and Delilah Lobo, panch of Parra were the chief guests and gave away the prizes. Ana Marie D’Souza and Paulo D’Souza, Nini D’souza, proprietor of Bottle Bay, Nicholas Quiterio (coach of Parra), Candida D’Souza, Parra panch were present.
President of Vailankanni Boys, Tony Dias welcomed and introduced to the two teams and officials to the chief guests alongwith committee members Alleluia Lobo (Leo), Brendon Lobo, Seby Fernandes, Sales Fernandes, Yogesh Chawan.
Sales Fernandes compered. Later, he proposed the vote of thanks.
