PANJIM: The floodlights at Tilak Maidan, Vasco could be switched on in the last week of October, well in time for hosting the I-League matches, disclosed SAG’s Executive Director, Elvis Gomes.
justify; ">Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has already signed the file with instructions that it should be a time-bound programme, much more so as the key I-League matches involving Dempo, Churchill Bros, Salgaocar and Sporting Clube de Goa would be played there, stated Elvis, who highlighted the back up provided by Parrikar.
Local MLA Carlos Almeida has also been pursuing the matter of renovation of the ground so that football fans from Mormugao Taluka could be the biggest beneficiaries, said Elvis who pointed out that whatever best modifications could be carried within four months would be undertaken.
“The shift in the venue for I-league matches will be intimated to both GFA as well as AIFF. With the Nehru Stadium renovation, which has been long overdue and also desired by AFC and AIFF all these years, the shift in the venue has become an absolute necessity, or else it would be the Goan clubs that would have to shift their base perhaps outside Goa, which would be detrimental to both teams as well as the football crazy Goans,” added Elvis.
