Can’t fool people You have always been boasting that you do not need the party for the Congress ticket, what you need is the people and God. In spite of having corrupt charges against you, the Congress party gave tickets to you and three other members of your family. Now, in the recent Assembly elections, people have voted against all of you, thus ending your Alemao family raj. For this defeat, you are blaming the clergy, EVM machine and the police. You are habituated in such instances. Whenever your football team ‘Churchill Brothers’ is defeated, you blame the referees. You are a sportsman of world fame. Whenever such defeats occur, you must take it sportingly, instead of blaming everyone. You have been voted out by the people for corruption and for your family raj. Now, as you have crores of rupees, retire from politics and enjoy a peaceful life. Mr Alemao, you can fool some people some time, all the people some time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. Anselm Gomes, Cuncolim
Saving Vascoites Mr. Parrikar, we Vascoites will never forget how you saved us and our children by clearing the red light area in Baina during your last tenure as CM. Now we welcome you once again to Vasco to save our lives- they are lost almost everyday through accidents. For every effect there is a root cause. We request you to find and address the root cause, rather than try to fix the effects, as there is no end to the latter. I feel the root cause of all these accidents is the carelessness of people behind the wheel. I have been to 29 countries and have never seen such carelessness in drivers like there is in Goa. The best method to eradicate this carelessness is by putting a new system of 'points' in the driving license like the western countries have. Something like this will help reduce carelessness in our drivers and precious lives will be saved. For our pedestrians this is my message: “Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live. Walk safe and be safe.” Francisco D'Souza, Vasco
Fatorda lake It is disgusting to note that suddenly two NGOs- Fatorda Xetkaranchi Saunstha (FXA) and United Goans Welfare Front have surfaced from nowhere, to oppose the iconic lake project proposed by the sitting MLA Vijai Sardesai. The FXA is led by Piedade Noronha, who could garner only 600 votes contesting the elections. Secondly, she has never been a farmer in her life to talk about farmer’s rights. These discredited elements are supported by the defeated BJP MLA, who has still not digested the fact that he lost the election miserably to Vijai, despite a pro BJP wave throughout Goa. Development of Fatorda Lake was the prominent pledge in Vijai’s election manifesto. None of his opponents raised this issue during the run-up to the elections. Therefore, it is amply clear that dirty politics is being played by these marginalized leaders who have been emphatically rejected by the suave and intelligent people of Fatorda. Our dynamic CM Mr. Parrikar should see through this dirty game and not succumb to their wily machinations. Fatorda has already lost ten years of development and it is high time all the residents of Fatorda rally behind Vijai and help him to accelerate the development works in Fatorda. S. Kashyap, Fatorda
Promises made Politicians promise the moon and are known to innovate crafty excuses when it is time to deliver. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had specifically promised that Goa would have an effective Lokayukta in place within 100 days of his government coming to power. There were no riders to that promise. Now he says the count down to those 100 days will start only from the day the Lokayutka bill is cleared by the President of India. He says he is not responsible for things beyond his control. Having made a promise, getting the President’s assent is the Chief Minister’s responsibility. Will we hear such an excuse on the garbage issue too? We have been promised that Goa will not have a shred of garbage on the streets within three months of the BJP government assuming power. Mr. Parrikar, we know you will not be personally picking up the garbage. Please do not tell us you could not find garbage collectors. And do not for a moment, think you will be able to blame it on the ensuing monsoons. By then the three months would end anyways. The people’s trust and faith in you may just begin fading. Aires Rodrigues, Ribandar
Frequent power failure This is to bring to the notice of the authorities concerned about the frequent power failure occurring in Margao. I remember that during the last five years, we did not have such frequent power failure. Was it because the CM was from Margao? And now has that advantage shifted to Panaji? For the last two weeks our children are studying either for their school final exams or preparing for their Board exams, and the lights keep going off and on. vTo add to the problem, the weather is turning very oppressive. How are our children to solve dual problems? Beat the heat and the lessons? Dear CM, you seem to be the leader of the common man. Enid Sobrinho, Margao
