It was amusing to read ‘Speakers Call for Special status for Goa’ (Herald June 16, 2012) an interview by the former NRI Commissioner Eduardo Faleiro, during a workshop on preserving ‘Goan Identity’, organised by Asha Family Responsibilities & Rights Association at Grace Church Complex Hall on June 15, crying over the fact that coastal Goa has been colonised by the foreigners. He expressed sorrow over the way foreigners have captured Goa. Goa and Goans are well aware of the fact that Eduardo Faleiro NRICommissioner along with U.D.Kamat visited every nook and corner of the world to attract Canadians, Russians, Israelis, Africans, Latin Americans, Americans, U.K, and Portuguese citizens etc., to Goa and his Congress Government was generous enough to allow ‘Little Italy’ at Morgim, ‘Little Tel Aviv’ at Arambol, Little United Kingdom, Little Germany, Little Russians, set in other parts of Goa etc., to mushroom at the cost of Goans who were made to fall prey to the drug abuse economy of these foreigners.
Eduardo knows well that Rome was not built in a day, and the menace of these foreigners harassing Goans and usurping precious Goan land, was the result of the mismanagement of the NRI cell managed by U.D. Kamat, Director and Eduardo Faleiro himself for the last six years.
It would be in the fitness of things, if the new NRI Commissioner Dr. Wilfred Mesquita could address the grave problems and other trades like foreign drug cartels outlets, drug trafficking, gun running, prostitution and illegal flee markets who are attempting to turn Goa into a base for their activities. Dr. Mesquita must not fall prey to the evil designs of U.D.Kamat and become a victim to foreign trips which is the main cause of the decline of Goa’s environment, and foreigners taking over coastal Goa. We know that Faleiro has resigned as NRI Commissioner, but U.D.Kamat still continues as Director of NRI and could be a bad influence on Wilfred Mesquita.
