Union law Minister Salman Kurshid’s utterance on the directionless functioning of the Congress party and Rahul Gandhi’s unwillingness to move beyond trailer shows, was not an emotionally charged out burst, but a well deliberated view. Even though, Kurshid is now on a denial mode, for what ever compulsions he may have, the people of this country are not prepared to buy any other interpretations or to read between the lines from what he really meant.
The crux of the matter is that there is a poverty of philosophy and thought process among the present leadership. More over, it also appears that there is an element of fear complex among senior Congress leaders- lest they should say any thing which is unsavoury to the powers that be. This trend is not in consonance with the democratic norms of this country nor matching with the rich traditions of the Indian National Congress.
It is high time that the party shuns such prejudices and open up to have inclusive policies. A political environment must be created for the leaders to express their views and ideas freely. The high command should soon realize that with the present closed door functioning, the nation cannot be guided in the right direction.
