Beautified Pomburpa springs to be opened in Jan HERALD CORRESPONDENT PORVORIM, DEC 25 After having spent over Rs 1 crore to beautify the Pomburpa springs, Tourism Minister Mickky Pacheco will inaugurate the famed springs on January 4, 2010. Speaking to Herald, Aldona MLA Dayanand Narvekar said the funds were utilised to illuminate the spring area and to renovate the cubicles for gents and ladies to change garments. In addition, a play area for children has been constructed with facilities like swings, slides and a seesaw. The compound wall has been constructed to prevent stray animals from entering the area. A stage for cultural programmes has also been built. ”The Pomburpa spring has always been a popular retreat for residents of nearby areas and a large number of tourists.
Hence, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation decided to undertake the beautification work of this spring,” said Narvekar. “Since there is no sufficient parking place at the spring, the government is planning to acquire the adjacent land for parking purpose,” said Narvekar. Meanwhile, Pormburpa Parish Priest Fr Santana Carvalho has complimented the tourism department for undertaking the beautification programme of the Pomburpa spring. “The flow of tourists to this place will increase on account of which the earnings of the locals will also increase,” he said. Fr Carvalho, however, pointed out that locals tend to wash their clothes at the spring. “The government should make separate arrangement for washing of clothes to maintain cleanliness at the site,” opined Fr Carvalho.
